Three respected paths, honestly compared.

Before you commit years to a credential, see them side by side — on cost, time-to-earn, and global mobility, one keeps pulling ahead.

Our pick for finance careers

CFA

Best forThe global gold standard for investment roles — equity research, portfolio mgmt, wealth, risk
The path3 exams, fully self-paced (~300 hrs/level) — study alongside college or a job

Approx cost (IN)~₹4–5.5 lakh all-in — a fraction of an MBA, with no lost salary
Typical IN payL1 ~₹4–6 LPA; charterholder ~₹20–40 LPA in core finance; ₹50 L–₹1 cr+ in senior investment roles, globally

CA

Chartered Accountancy

Best forAccounting, audit & tax practice — strong in India, narrower globally
The path3 levels + a mandatory 2-year articleship on a modest stipend
Typical duration~4.5–5 years on a fixed calendar
Approx cost (IN)~₹1–4 lakh in fees — but two articleship years at low pay
Typical IN payFresher ~₹7–13 LPA; in finance roles the ceiling typically sits below CFA peers

MBA (Finance)

Management degree

Best forGeneral management & leadership — finance depth varies widely by college
The pathA year of CAT/XAT prep, then a 2-year full-time degree, off the job market
Typical duration2 years full-time, plus entrance prep
Approx cost (IN)~₹5–30 lakh — up to 6× the CFA — plus two years of foregone salary
Typical IN payOnly top-20 B-schools reach ₹25–36 LPA; the wider market trails well behind — at 6× the entry cost

Figures are approximate for 2026 and vary by registration timing, college, and attempts. For a career in core finance, the CFA comes out ahead on almost every count — that is why we teach it.

But before we map where finance can take you, it helps to know who's walking beside you.

Who's walking beside you

You'd be in good company.

The mind behind the method.

Utkarsh Jain, Founder of FinTree, teaching in class

The person behind the method

I think you have to be a good learner before you're any good as a teacher. I borrow from Feynman — if I can't break a concept down to first principles and make it simple, I don't understand it well enough yet. That's the standard every FinTree class is held to.

Why capable people still fail CFA.

It's rarely intelligence. It's three quiet gaps — concepts memorised but never understood, practice that started too late, and an exam strategy no one actually taught. Name them, and they stop being fatal.

Concepts

Memorised, but never understood.

Practice

Started too late to hold under pressure.

Strategy

An exam plan no one actually taught.

If those are the three cracks people fall through, here's how we close each one.

The method

How FinTree actually helps: the LPR method.

Three gaps. Three deliberate answers — a sequence, not a slogan.

Learn. concept clarity first

You understand why before you ever memorise what.

Practice. pressure, rehearsed

Cases, drills, past-paper rigor, weekly and mock tests — so exam pressure meets prepared hands.

Revise. until it holds

A revision system, and mentors, that stay with you until it holds.

Level IIIThe right way to approach prep

Know the terrain before you climb it.

CFA Level I is ten subjects, from Quantitative Methods to Ethics, and about 10–12 months of focused study. Eligible with a bachelor's degree — or within 23 months of graduating, so B.Com and BBA students can sit Level I in their second year. No degree? 4,000 hours of relevant work experience counts too.
